The 90-day mark came in February. The government identified computing resources available for AI infrastructure.

The 120-day mark came in March. The Department of Energy produced a preliminary infrastructure needs assessment.

The 240-day deadline hits July 22. The Secretary of Energy must deliver a review of “capabilities across the DOE national laboratories and other participating Federal research facilities for robotic laboratories and production facilities with the ability to engage in AI-directed experimentation and manufacturing.” In plain English: the government is cataloging everything it owns that can build things at scale using AI, and deciding which facilities to expand.
